Let’s admit it.
We’ve all just went through probably one of the most stressful and chaotic times of our lives the past twelve months.
Your nerves are frayed.
Your brain’s on overdrive.
You’re looking for something to soothe and to calm.
What would work?
Here are three ways reading can help:
- Reading can transport you to another world – away from your current one. Every once in a while, we all need to get away. Books are the perfect portals to other places – living and experiencing vicariously through our favorite characters. “Books are a uniquely portable magic.” – Stephen King
- Reading can bring comfort knowing that you’re not alone – and that you CAN get through this. For many, reading memoirs is cathartic and therapeutic – knowing that there are others who went through similar events or experiences and came out on the other side. Devotionals and poetry are other items people read to find that calm in the midst of the storm. “We read to know that we are not alone.” C.S. Lewis
- Reading can open your mind to possibilities. Each book has its own view of the world – providing new and fresh perspective on things you never would have encountered on your own. This could give you renewed energy and hope for you and for your own life. These kinds of books would include the Self-Help, How-To, and Travelogues just to name a few. “I read a book one day and my whole life was changed.”― Orhan Pamuk
When you read a great book, you don’t escape from life, you plunge deeper into it. ― Julian Barnes, A Life with Books
