The past twelve months have been unlike anything I’ve experienced.
And at times, I’ve felt lethargic and unmotivated as a writer.
These are some things I’ve done to snap out of the slump:
- One of the best things to do is get your body moving whether by walking (outdoors or around your home), climbing stairs, or even doing the laundry. The more vigorous the movements, the better. These kinds of activities act like a stimulant to the body which in turn helps get your mind (or muse) back into gear.
- One of the best ways I know of on how to reawaken the muse is by reading a book. Find one you’ve never read before or re-read one of your favorites. Believe it or not, what really works (for me) is reading a story that’s based in the same genre that you write.
- Binge watch a tv show. If nothing else works then kick back in a comfy chair, select a show (that has a few seasons at least) and binge watch it! Allowing yourself to relax while immersing your mind in another world can often spark an inspiration out of the blue. This recently happened to me when I sat down to watch one of my favorite tv series, The Grimm. After the first season, it was like a flood-gate had opened and my fingers could not type fast enough!
